Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 12, 2026
This policy explains what information Splittly, available at https://splittly.vercel.app, collects and how it is used.
Data you enter
Splittly does not require an account. Participant names and expenses you enter are stored in your browser's local storage so they survive a page reload.
If you start a shared board, its participants and expenses are stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) under a randomly generated board ID. Anyone who has the board link can view and edit that board, so do not enter sensitive personal information. You can delete a board at any time with the delete button inside the board.
Share links created with the share button contain the board data compressed into the URL itself and are not stored on our servers.
Content you submit
Names, descriptions and images you enter are provided by you, not by Splittly. We do not review or monitor this content, and you are responsible for it. Please do not enter sensitive personal data or anything that is not safe for work. See our Terms of Service for the rules on user content and how to report content that breaks them.
Receipt scanning
Receipt scanning on the expenses page runs entirely in your browser; the image is not uploaded. The separate Receipt Scanner tool sends the image you choose to Google's Gemini API to extract the merchant, total and line items. Google processes that image under its own terms.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies and does not identify individual visitors.
Advertising and cookies
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Your privacy choices
Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are shown a consent message, provided by Google, before personalized ads are used. You can change your choice at any time using the privacy settings link that appears on the page after you first respond.
Visitors in US states with privacy laws (such as California, Virginia, Colorado and Connecticut) can opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising using the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link, provided by Google, shown at the bottom of the page. Splittly does not sell your personal information for money; the only such "sharing" is the advertising cookies and identifiers used by Google AdSense as described above.
You can delete the data stored on your device at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, and delete a shared board with the delete button inside the board. For any other request about your data — for example, to access or delete it — contact us using the details below.
